Donna Farhi returning  to Adelaide July 2012

Weekend Intensive - Friday 13 July - Sunday  15 July
Focus: Centreing Down

In Donna's last visit to Adelaide she explored the underlying energetic support of Navel Radiation, an early human developmental pattern that organizes the limbs from the deep navel centre. In this next intensive Donna would like to build on this theme by exploring the auxilary  support that comes through sensing, feeling and engaging "inner core" muscles. One of the most controversial and least understood of these is the deepest of all the abdominal muscles, the psoas.

A particular emphasis of this workshop will be using the practice of yama or "restraint" as a way of bringing our fullest attention to stability within the body. Stability is then used as the prerequiste condition from which to extend our flexibility and movement.

Each session will be divided into two sessions and include lecture, guided movement inquiry and a diverse range of both active and restorative asana practice.  A special feature of this workshop will be two newly developed anatomical Powerpoint presentations as well as exercise /asana hand-outs available to all participants.

Participants should have a sound working knowledge of the basic asanas and have had a consistent Yoga practice for at least one year. You need not have attended the previous workshop to enjoy the benefits of this one.

Testimonials

Foundation Yoga Course

The classes were lead by a fantastic down-to-earth instructor who explained how each pose worked a particular part of the body. Very informative but fun and friendly. Relaxation at the end is Bliss. Thank you Cheryl
I've tried yoga before but never had the basics explained as well as in this introductory series. Thank you Natasha
The Beginner Course inspired me to sign on for future classes as I could feel the benefits beginning Peta Ryan

Ongoing Weekly classes

I have attended Essence of Yoga at Golden Grove Recreational Centre since Sandy commenced classes in January, 2008. During this time I have found Sandy to be an informative teacher providing instruction, guidance and a fun learning environment for yoga classes. I personally feel that I have developed and grown in my yoga practise and look forward to my two classes a week with Sandy. I also have a deeper understanding of the meaning of yoga and the personal journey of self inquiry and discovery.

I would thoroughly recommend Sandy's classes, whether a person is a beginner or experienced, to share the journey of yoga in the calm and relaxed atmosphere of classes at Essence of Yoga. Lesley Watkins
I really enjoyed the practice and looked forward to attending my next class. After completing the 6 week beginner's classes, I continued attending class each week and really enjoyed the exercise. Working with Sandra, I realised that you can be any age to do yoga and even with health problems she finds a way for you to practice. I thoroughly enjoy attending my yoga classes and really miss it if I cannot attend. It is amazing how quickly you lose your flexibility even if you miss just one class. Sandra always makes sure you do not feel pressured into doing poses that you feel unable to do and making sure that you listen to your body and always re-iterates that yoga is not a competition but a personal journey. Christine Madden
I have been attending Essence of Yoga for over eighteen months and feel it has increased my everyday well-being and resilience. Classes are energising and enjoyable with Sandy's individual instruction always at hand. This personal interaction augments the learning experience and offers insight into the yoga ethos. Sandy encourages awareness of, and respect for, our bodies through an emphasis on individual capacity: Yoga class is the ultimate 'me' time Gail Wright
Yoga lessons have become a place where I can reflect on how well I am living my life, and how far I've come since I first started. It has not only helped me develop skills in balance, flexibility, and strength, it has also taught me how to pay attention to my internal struggles and become aware of the wellbeing of my psyche. Sandra is a kind and gentle teacher, who takes the time to teach her students carefully and thoroughly, and allows them to develop their skills at their own pace Megan Wright

Retreat

Sandra you are blessed in your ability to deliver such a rewarding program and lead us to oneself. Thank you so much Sue Fleming
A restful weekend in a supportive environment and lovely surrounds. The weekend allowed the perfect opportunity to restore mind, body and spirit and open the heart. Thanks Sandra and Sylvia for a great retreat. I found it so beneficial Jodie Searle
The retreat was a great break from the business of everyday life. It was well organised. The food was thoughtfully and lovingly prepared. The yoga classes offered a good range of experiences and were presented in a caring way to suit the needs of all. The retreat had a calm and gentle atmosphere with a good balance of time to socialize and have personal reflection. Thank you Cheryl Martin

Workshops

Sandra really encouraged me to focus on exploring the way my body wanted to move into the postures rather than achieve a certain "shape" which felt a much healthier, enjoyable way to practise. Samantha
Sandra's workshop further cemented the work explored with Donna Farhi. Radiating outwards from the centre rather than being static with a pose Leanne
I found the workshop to be instantly comfortable, presented with an atmosphere of non-pushiness and with freedom. The exploration was spontaneous and enjoyable. Paul
