Yoga Foundation Course: This course is designed to gradually introduce students sequentially to yoga techniques which help increase flexibility, strengthen the body and encourage peace and harmony. Each week students are presented with a different focus building from week to week building to the final week where a typical ongoing class is presented. Handouts are given during weeks 1 - 5 covering the class focus. Booking and prepayment are essential.

Meditation Course: This 4 week course is an introduction to meditation. Simple techniques to help overcome distractions are taught with no particular belief system. Sitting on the floor is not a requirement. Handouts are given after each practice reflecting on the meditation given during the session.

Pilates Course: These classes will build strength between abdominal and back muscles to provide core stabilization to improve and enhance posture allowing the entire body to move freely with ease. Classes will run, where possible, in conjunction with public school terms.

Ongoing Beginner
Class: This class is for students new to yoga practice, just completed the Foundation Course, or the more experienced student wanting to continue to refine their practice. Regular attendance in this level will continue to building the students knowledge of the physical practice. Meditation and Pranayama (breathing practices) may also be included.  It is recommended that students attend this level for at least six months.

General Class: Students with at least six months experience are welcome to attend this class regardless of their flexibility and capabilities. Vinyasa sequences (flowing movement of postures) will be given building strength and stimina
creating a moving meditative practice.  Sequences will be layered allowing students a degree of independence to choose the variation that best suits their needs. Chanting, Meditation and or Pranayama are generally included.

Relax, Stretch and Balance Class: Classes focus on postures to maintain strength and flexibility but with a stronger focus on postures to help restore energy and balance hormones. 

Prenatal Class: Women experience an array of changes both physically and emotionally during all stages of pregnancy. Classes will provide asana practice to help strengthen the body, breathing practices to calm the mind and relaxation to balance and restore energy.

Relax and Rejuvenation Class: This class will give supportive asanas (postures) to help release deeply held muscle tension, pranayama (breathing techniques) to calm the mind and yoga nidra (guided meditation) to induce physical, mental and emotional relaxation.

  • In all classes students may be given guided movement explorations helping them to understand their unique movement patterns increasing body awareness and assisting to find body alignment.
  • Restore and Relaxation classes on occasions may substitute the regular format.
  • Please note all classes are restricted in number to preserve a pleasant practice atmosphere. It is advisable for first time attendees attendees to contact us to ensure space availablity in class of choice.

While all necessary equipment is provided for health reasons and to influence home practice students are encouraged to purchase and bring to class their own yoga sticky mat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to attend a Yoga Foundation Course?

Foundation courses are designed to introduce the student to yoga asana practice. This will prepare you for ongoing classes and is the best way to start your practice. The course each week has a different focus;
Week 1 - Following the breath
Week 2 - Discovering the difference between collapsing, propping
                and yielding
Week 3 - The spine and its functions
Week 4 - Discovering fluidity of movement
Week 5 - Moving from centre
Week 6 - Consolidation of previous classes

At the end of the 6 week course you will be ready to attend any of the Level 1 classes.

What should I wear?

  • Wear comfortable loose fitting or stretchy clothing allowing free breath and body movement.
  • Layers of clothing in cooler months will allow you to regulate your own body temperature. It is advisable to wear socks during relaxation in the cooler months.
  • Yoga is practiced in bare feet, so slip on shoes for ease of removal and putting back on are ideal.
  • Long hair is best tied back to avoid distraction during class.

Can I eat before class?

It is best to practice on an empty stomach so allow at least 1 1/2 hour to 2 hours after a meal before class. If for medical reasons you need to eat before class choose something light.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Although there are yoga non-slip sticky mats at the Studio you are encouraged to purchase your own encouraging a home practice. Yoga mats are available from local retail stores or from Yoga Supply Companys such as EMP / I Yoga Props or Yoga King 

Other considerations

  • It is best to avoid wearing strong perfume to class as this can cause discomfort to some people.
  • Make sure as you enter the room that you turn your MOBILE PHONE to SILENT OR OFF so it does not cause disruption during class especially in the relaxation period.
